Homemade Sweet Mustard

This homemade, sweet mustard recipe is a family favourite, mostly made at Christmas time to be enjoyed with tongue or gammon, or anything else we decide to put it on. This is actually such an easy recipe and the ingredients are inexpensive, well except maybe the mustard powder, but the amount of sweet mustard you can get definitely makes it worth it. Homemade sweet mustard never lasts long in my house, as soon as it has been made it goes on ALL food!

You need a double boiler to make this mustard, however, if like me, you don't have one, simply use two pots, placing the smaller one into the larger one. Before you start anything else, get your water boiling so that it is ready!

Get all your ingredients ready; eggs, sugar, vinegar, and of course mustard powder.

Break the eggs into the smaller pot and briefly whisk the eggs, then you simply need to add the rest of the ingredients and mix a little.

Place the smaller pot over the boiling water, it is important that the pot does not touch the water as this will cause your eggs to scramble, and that is not what we want! Whisk continuously to make your mustard extra creamy and delicious!

The mixture will form a foam-like layer, this will then clear and the sauce will thicken, this is when you know your mustard sauce it ready!

Remove from heat and allow to cool before placing it in a container. Store in the fridge and enjoy with chips, chicken, veg, or whatever else your heart desires!

Ingredients

  • 6 Eggs
  • 10 tsp Mustard Powder
  • 1/4 Cup Vinegar

How To Make Sweet Mustard

Whisk all ingredients together in a small to medium pot or in a double boiler. Place over boiling water, ensuring the water does not touch the pot. Whisk continuously, a foam-like layer will form, this will clear and the mustard will become thick. Remove from the heat once it has thicken and let it cool down slightly before placing it into a container. Cool completely and enjoy with any meal!
